Elenor Chipman

I am captivated by the idea of turning art into garments.  I began dyeing my own fabric about 25 years ago and though technically self taught I have attended classes Arrowment School of Art and a variety of workshops. It is my desire to combine art and practicality so that anyone can have in their closet a garment with color, flash and energy.

The garments often reflect an Asian influence. When I dye my silk, I use a Japanese method called Shibori which creates patterns by binding, stiching, folding or twisting the fabric before placing it in the dye. I also paint on silk using French dyes that are then steam set.

I can never repeat the exact same design. Each piece is truly one-of-a-kind.
